Hello Goodbye
02:13
|
|||
Hello again, my so-called friends
It's good to have you back again
A tale to tell, a man at sea
Whatever did become of me?
Well here I am, my voice again
To some it's sweet, some it offends
Ten years gone by, oh how time flies
This hello is really a goodbye
1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Hello again, my dearest friends
It's good to have you back again
Sometimes you just have to blame me
If only for simplicity
Well here's the truth, if you must know
I say goodbye and mean hello
But this may take you by surprise
Cos this hello is really a goodbye

On Our Way
03:15
|
|||
Mobile phone and a ripped-up youth
Mean streak to tell the truth
Well it's all I have
Too much time and a tale to tell
Piece of heaven that feels like hell
And it's all I have
Do we look at the skies in wonder?
Or is every day the same?
And if they tear our dreams asunder, will we dream them all the same?
Are we on our way?
Do we sing a song of freedom on our way?
Do we take risks when we need them?
Crowded room and a soul to bear
A golden girl with golden hair
And it's all I have
High pressure and a heart too small
Big head with far to fall
Yeah it's all I have
Do we look at the skies in wonder?
Or is every day the same?
And if they tear our dreams asunder, will we dream them all the same?
Are we on our way?
Do we sing a song of freedom on our way?
Do we take risks when we need them?
Will I be lonely on the way?
Well, it's not certain if you stay
Are you lonesome? Are you scared?
Stay where you are, I'll be right there
I'm on my way
I will sing a song of freedom on my way
I will take risks when I need them on my way
If they warn me, will I heed them on my way?
If they follow, I will lead them
I'm on my way

I went down one day to the mouth of the bay just intending to sit on the beach
And that's when I saw her, a mile or so offshore, the girl who was just out of reach
I called to her softly "Do you come here often?"
"Not really," she said with a sigh.
"In fact, I'm marooned here, entrapped and entombed here," she said, with a glint in her eye
"Can I assist you?" I asked quite persistently, admiring her long golden hair
"Oh please don't you spoil me," she answered quite coyly, "but I'm here and you're over there."
"Simple," I said, pulled my shirt over my head and jumped in the sea with a splash
But as I grew nearer, it was clearer and clearer my actions had been rather rash
The waters were choppy, one might just say stroppy, I found to my shock and dismay
That the tide it had caught me, relentlessly brought me right back to the mouth of the bay
Hard as I might, I put up a fight but I found myself back on the beach
And still out to sea, just as far as could be, was the girl who was just out of reach

Stalling For Time
03:45
|
|||
Read between the lines now, baby, you might just understand
Catch up with the times now, honey, watch the second hand
I'm feeling fine so why does my face look so blue?
Ask me one more time and maybe the next line will be true
Sometimes you're just too alone
Sometimes you feel too alone
Why do you seem so alone?
Pull me back from the edge but I'm still falling, falling
Climb out on to the ledge I see you crawling, crawling
Pull me back from the edge but I'm still falling
I'm still falling
Get off my cloud now, sugar, it's started to rain
I may be too proud but then you, you have no shame
And while you're laughing aloud the stars fall from my eyes
You'll disappear into the crowd if you won't touch the skies with me
Sometimes you're just too alone
Sometimes you feel too alone
Why do you seem so alone?
Pull me back from the edge but I'm still falling, falling
Climb out on to the ledge I hear you calling, calling, calling
Pull me back from the edge but I'm still falling, falling, falling
Climb out over the edge, I think you're stalling
Yeah, I think you're stalling
Pull me back from the edge
Pull me back from the edge
Pull me back from the edge but I'm still
Yeah, I'm still
Pull me back from the edge
Pull me back from the edge
Pull me back from the edge I think you're stalling
Yeah, I think you're stalling for time

Why do I bother trying to run for cover when it's clear in my mind you are not my brother?
Wanna be another, not just an also-runner, sick of spending my life on the teeter-totter
Just another nutter lying in the gutter looking up at the stars - I think I'll have another
Don't need a lot, I can't see the point, I'm sick of speaking my mind, not getting what I want
Wanna take my picture, you stupid bitch?
Why don't you try this for size, maybe it'll fit ya?
Not looking for trouble - I'm more hubble-bubble - but if you raise me again, I'll see you double
Listen sister - I ain't missed ya, but if you're making my mark I'll have it with a twist
I think I've got it covered, skeletons in my cupboard, things I've wanted to hide waiting to be discovered
Hit me harder, you tub of lard.
If you sell me a dream, I'll buy it by the yard
May take some bottle, may not be subtle
Put your foot on the brake, push down on the throttle
Wish I knew the answer, wasn't just a chancer
I've got two left feet, I'll never be a dancer
It's there for the taking. Stop belly-aching
I can tell when it's true, and when you're faking.

Getting Better
02:16
|
|||
Faceless people with unseeing eyes
All trying to find a home for their lies
But I believe my soul when it cries
That it all gets better from here
Need the strength to hold on to dreams
Those who know it's not all is it seems
Will raise a glass to those who know that this means
That it all gets better from here
It all gets better from here
Loneliness can tear you apart
Sunk in confusion who knows where to start?
The words unspoken but straight from the heart
Say it all gets better from here
Chance is missed to be what you could
And no-one can say the boy he done good
The curtain falls and it's all understood
That it all gets better from here
It all gets better from here

24th & Mission
03:06
|
|||
On 24th & Mission Street, there's all the people you could ever wanna meet
You could take the BART to a nicer part but the air wouldn't smell so sweet
Well there's Gwendolyn, she's got eyes of sin and she holds on to my guitar
And there's a man called Stan, he may not have a plan
But you know he's gonna take you far
Yeah you know he's gonna make you a star
On 24th and Mission Street there's all the people you could ever wanna meet
There's no need for you to go downtown, all you need is all around
Well there's a guy called Sue he'll show you what to do and he'll take you to heaven on the stairway
And that son of a gun just got a hole in one yeah he'll whip your ass on the fairway
Now that doesn't seem to me much like fair play
On 24th and Mission Street there's all the people you could ever wanna meet
You could take the BART to a nicer part but the air wouldn't smell so sweet
I hate to say it, but there is no better place than here
It hurts to say it, but there is no better place than here
Right here
There is no other place than here
Right here
There is no other place than here
On 24th and Mission Street there's all the people you could ever wanna meet

Storm Warning
04:27
|
|||
A storm is brewing
He looks out and wishes he knew what he was doing
While on the horizon, the things he relies on are twisting and breaking
He was all ready to rumble
But started to crumble
Just as the weather was breaking
Back against the wall, dividing to fall
And yet it was all there for the taking
But caught in a monsoon it was over all too soon
Shoulda seen it coming, shoulda seen it and kept on running
He tried to make certain he wouldn't get hurt
And found that his shelter was leaning
Now soaked to the skin
He wakes up and looks at the mess he's left in
Which starts the screaming
And then all is lost, and then all is lost
And then all he's lost comes back to haunt him

Breathe
03:30
|
|||
Deep breath
Breathe deeply
To crush the feelings you fear so
Try to stay alive, but you just want to die
On your feet
Right there
Breathe
Breathe deeply
Breathe
Breathe deeper
You can barely stand
On your feet
Life so sweet
So fine
The doors close
Locked into your future
Locked out of your mind
She walks backwards
Till she's out of view
Inhale
The brine rising
Your heart is sinking
Dying

All That She Wants
04:25
|
|||
She'll always find someone to fuck her
But will she find someone to give her the succour she needs?
And while her promises are hollow
She'll always find someone that's willing to swallow them whole
It don't make her bad
It just makes her mad to find that she's dangerous to know
When all that she wants is to grow
The last thing she wants is to suffer
So she raises the stakes in the hope that her bluff will be called
She brings all her chips to the table
But her heart sinks to find just how willing and able they fall
And it makes her mad
It makes her so sad to find that it's always her call
When all that she wants is to fall in love
She says she needs someone to love her
But she trembles with fear at the thought that her cover's been blown
She silently takes off her make-up
And she wonders aloud if tomorrow she'll wake up alone
And it makes her sad
To know that she had a heart that she once set aglow
Now all that she wants is to go to bed
